Fieldwork for kangaroo rat, spineflower species completed

SBVWCD kangaroo rat

Ongoing monitoring and protection of native, threatened and endangered species within the Wash is an important part of the work done at the San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District.

Included in this work are the endangered San Bernardino kangaroo rat and slender-horned spineflower. In the photo above, student interns Anna Frey, Chrissy Kent, and Jazmin Serrato finish the last day of field work for 2022, collecting kangaroo rat habitat covariates at 100 survey plots throughout the Wash. This year’s monitoring for the endangered spineflower, at right, has also been completed.
